Musculoskeletal Integrated Care Service (MSK) receives high commendation

March 10 2020

We are delighted to announce that our Buckinghamshire Musculoskeletal Integrated Care Service has received a high commendation for their contribution to clinical redesign at this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards, recognising their outstanding contribution to healthcare. Following an intensive month-long judging process, Bucks MSK was handed the accolade ahead of a highly competitive shortlist.

Held on Thursday 27th February 2020, the evening was attended by leaders and professionals from both the NHS and private sector as well as figures from non-clinical backgrounds. The HSJ Partnership Awards took place at Park Plaza Westminster, London where the evening celebrated the very best achievements and innovations in the healthcare sector today across a total of 14 categories.

Our team designed an integrated MSK service (iMSK), working with GPs, Care UK and Buckinghamshire Hospital Trust (BHT) to ensure patients get the right care in the most appropriate location. This helped to improve staff and patient satisfaction, as well as making patient pathways more effective and efficient.

They specifically focused on:

  • GPs having the right guidance to manage routine MSK patients in the community

  • Specialist advice which is available early in the pathway

  • Patients being able to access care when they need it, reducing ‘touch point’ and improving patient choice

Michelle Saunders, Secondary Care Lead for CATS and Diagnostic Services, said “We are really pleased to have done so well and to be recognised for work that has been ongoing for more than five years and we continue to work in partnership with Buckinghamshire Hospital Trust.

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan, who hosted the Awards ceremony, comments “Congratulations to the Bucks MSK service on getting a high commendation for the ‘Most Effective Contribution to Clinical Redesign’ at this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards. The entrants this year have been of incredible calibre, and the finalists have been chosen based on their outstanding commitment to collaboration with the NHS and innovation in healthcare. The high quality and quantity of entrants in 2020 posed a very difficult challenge to our influential judging panel, who were impressed by the breadth of applications demonstrating real evidence of cost savings and efficiencies, as well as improvements to patient care.

“We know that Care UK is not alone in fostering a culture of excellence and hope this recognition will be a source of inspiration for like-minded teams across the country. As we look towards our 4th anniversary year in 2021, we’re proud of the legacy we’ve created and are delighted that the HSJ Partnership Awards continue to be attract and draw attention to the hard work and behind-the-scenes teamwork in healthcare.”
